Self Publish in PDF
eBook Publisher | 06 January, 2005 17:58
The game is over and the winner is.....
Adobe Acrobat PDF!
Yes, if you are even remotely considering whether to self publish an ebook, PDF is your solution for the document format.
In the last 5 years, proprietary ebook creation tools came onto the market in droves. Software developers and Internet marketers once thought, for good reason, they could build a business around selling software that would make your ebook a .exe executable file.
And perhaps that strategy would have worked, if it weren't for a silly thing called computer viruses.
Once viruses became prevalent, the .exe format was doomed for mass use as an ebook tool.
As anti-virus software became wide spread, and users began to get paranoid of getting a virus, self publishers quickly changed strategies and moved to the PDF format to get their ebooks to market.
So, given that PDF is the format of choice, what options to you have to get your ebook converted from MS Word, Wordperfect, text or other formats?
You can buy Adobe Acrobat for around $500 a copy. You can buy other PDF creators, as we profiled in this
PDF creator article.
Or you can try a
free web service here.
We here at the B2B eBook Conference have not used the Fast PDF service, but we've been told by some of our members that it's a fine tool, especially for free.
We will continue to spotlight various PDF creation tools over time. There are a lot of them and during the year, we're going to do some testing to try to give you our best opinion.

I have created a web site that allows users to create secure pdf ebooks online. The link is www.bigbangebooks.com
People can use it for free, all that I ask is that they send me an email if they get any errors.
Give it a go and let me know what you think :)
