Blogs and Self Publishing
eBook Publisher | 04 February, 2005 17:00
Are blogs a form of self publishing? Absolutely! They are the epitome of self publishing! Why don't more writers write a blog?
That's a very interesting question. From interviews with our members, the general consensus seems to be that most writers want to get paid for their writing. They don't want to be marketers or have to do scummy stuff like marketing, public relations or advertising!
Yuk! Who does?
However, very few big name authors got there by sitting back and waiting for the world to beat down their door. Most got out and hussled sales early in their careers. And our guess is, that in today's market, they would have been active bloggers.
If you haven't yet, add a blog to your marketing plan. It's a great way for you to build a following and bond with your readers. In fact, reverse the model - consider your blog a tool to attract an entirely new market to buy your books! That is the "new" way and one that doesn't require you to "hussle" with marketing. Just select a good software system like ours (
plog) that has an automated "pinger", then write!
The pinger is a tool that automatically updates blog directories and search engines.
We can tell you that since adding our blog here, our traffic has doubled. It could only be from the pinger making a whole new world (i.e. market) realize that we're here.
Speaking of blogs, and if you are in a dictator run country, take a look at
this article.
There is a contest:
"
The awards applaud independent blogs that
provide an alternative view of the news, especially in countries where
journalists and writers are persecuted by the authorities and the
traditional media is under government control."
Go there and learn more.
Have a great weekend!

This spring, I self-published my eighth book in print form and in eBook (pdf)form. Since I own the copyright on all of my books and because I have no interest in promoting the sale of printed books (My publisher does this for me.), I decided to publishe all of my books on my web site , where they can be downloaded FOR FREE by anyone with a computer connected to the Internet. My ISP made available his tools for evaluating the number of downloads. I'm happy to report that in the first six weeks of their posting as free, ebooks, in excess of 1,050 of my books have been downloaded. So somewhere "out there" someone is circulating (if not reading) my seven novels and my most recent book, a non-fiction work, called THE CHRISTIAN PASTOR'S WORK. My first seven novels are contemporary crime "stuff." So, I encourage anyone interested in expanding their readers base, try it; you might like this method of spreading your work around withouth worrying about making money. Go to my web site and follow the instructions for downloads.
