eBook Security

eBook Publisher | 13 February, 2005 15:48

We are regularly deluged with questions about ebook security.  Most of the time these questions come from people who aren't even finished with their first ebook.  So they don't even know if it will sell.  And they are worried about theft.
eBook security, for most self-published authors, is a non-issue.  While you may have some great tips, advice, how-to's, most of your buyers could care less about trying to sell or give away your work product.  They want the info and advice you offer.

If you are Tom Wolfe on the other hand, you might have a problem.

It's like the difference between a local "cover" band vs. Led Zepplin.

To illustrate why most of us who are niche authors shouldn't worry about this, take a read of this interview with Cory Doctorow and note his views on this whole topic.  Cory is a well-known figure in the web / internet industry and published by a "traditional" publisher several times over.

If he embraces open commerce and no security in your electronic works, it's probably not a bad idea for you to follow.

Worth considering anyway.
